Did you have a factory CAT?

Hey guys,
I'm trying to prove/disprove something I heard a long time ago, and I don't know if it is really true or not.

I was told (on some forum) that if a truck came with a cat from the factory that the sticker under the hood would have one of the words "catalytic" or "catalyst" on it. It would not say either of those if it did not come with a cat from the factory.

It is true for my truck...no cat-no such wording

Is it true on your truck?

Post here if you KNOW FOR A FACT that your truck did or did not have a cat from the factory, and is there any wording to that effect on the sticker under the hood??

Thanks for helping me clear this up guys.

At your request, I went out and checked my truck and van... 2000 F-350, no cat, and no mention of it on the hood stickers, same with the '99 van... however, the van has an item in the exhaust, not in the down pipe, but just after the flanged connection with the down pipe, there's a 8 or 9" diam, about 12-14" long oval shaped canister. Doesn't look like any cat I've ever seen, it's round like pipe, not flat like a cat, (my friends would say the best cat is a flat one....) might this just be a resinator of some type? The muffler is another 4' farther down the van, in the normal place just infront of the jump over the rear axle. Don't tell the ol' man, I'm gonna have to straight pipe the van soon... looks easy to do, glad I went out and looked at it...

Hey thanks for checking bud.....

That sounds like where the cat would be, doesn't it? Doesn't sound like thats what it is though, sounds like you're decribing a DPF on a 6.4.

here's proof of what you are looking. I have a stock 96er here in California with a kitty and a sticker that does say "catalyst". the sticker is on the hood itself.

yup, that's what had me scratchin' my head... Never seen a cat like that, most times, at least looks like two halves, seam 'round it in the middle, like a cat, dang it. I don't know, don't care, gonna take it out. Gotta measure exactly what pipe I need, it's swelled out to about 4" or so after the flange from the down pipe, I'll keep it that big untill it hits the tail pipe, once I take the muffler out... or might just find a complete 4" new exhaust.... might be the best way to go, by the looks of it, I need to tighten up the turbo clamp anyway, oughta just take it off, and tighten it up when I the new down pipe goes on!
