Exhaust Mods

I am curious if anyone knows if I can lower my exhaust temp by just running factory downpipe and removing the muffler on my 2002? I am running straight pipe with factory downpipe but dont have a EGT gauge. I am using a Hypertech III and am concerned about getting too hot.

OK, I am confused, do you have a muff in place or do you have it straight piped. If you straight pipe it, you will get about 70% of the flow that you would from going to a 4". But, if you are going to be adding power, you need some guages...period. I just saw House22 selling a pyro, you could jump on that for a good price.

Exactly right, while removing the factory muffler will lower the EGT's some that still isn't nearly as effecient as running 4" exhaust (mandrel bent). You are also in desprate need of an EGT guage!!! No exhaust or intake mod will take the place of needing good guages.

Ok thanks guys.......I think I will tune my Hypertech at stage1 for now. I will be adding a set of gauges after the Xmas crunch at home. Would like to go 4 inch eventually, but for now I got the exhaust mod done for 50 bucks. 70 percent should be good enough for stage 1 on the programmer I have don't you think? I really wasn't doing the mods for power, just to gain some mileage. Last summer the fuel got to 3.50 a gallon out here in California which hurt when using my truck to pull our 28' 5th wheel. It only weighs about 10k so I have always had enough power.
