Question about #2 diesel

I was just wondering will my 99 7.3l run on #2 diesel or is it just for the new trucks.

ULSD is said to work fine (but hasn't been tested more than a few years).

Most are running #2 diesel ULSD + B5 biodiesel, or 2-stroke oil additive. This will provide superior lubrication.

i hope a diesel runs on #2....thats all they have out here unless you want a mix of #2 and bio. I think they mix #2 and #1 during winter to help with gelling..

Yup #2 is what you will get pretty much everywhere this time of year. Thats what these trucks are designed to run on

My truck, a 2000 7.3L, was not "designed" to run on ULSD. ULSD didn't even exist yet.

ULSD may have less lubrication...and may shorten injector life on older PSD.

It has been said that ULSD + B5 (2stroke), the injectors are more quiet and the trucks run better.

But that doesn't mean ULSD is going to ruin your truck. The new additives in ULSD are supposed to still lubricate....some of us just have some doubts....and some of us have found better lubricates.

if you can get B5, B20, i'd do it. Doesn't cost too much more than regular #2, adds some lubricity, runs a little better(on my truck anyways..)
When you first run bio for a while you'll have to change the fuel filter after a bit because it will clean out some of the crap in the system..
We got Sequential Biofuels here, and the offer B5, B20, and B99... They've got a jar of B99 sitting ontop of the pumps so you can see if its gelling at the ambient temp..

Not entirely true. If you run B80+, you are more likely to have the cleaning affect of biodiesel. But for anything less than B80, you are unlikely to have any issue. I run B50 in a warm moist marine diesel that is old as 1977....and no problems with filters.

That's pretty cool. I need to try that. My marine diesel without glow plugs won't start with B50 in the winter.

It will run fine on straight bio. In winter you will want to blend with regular diesel though.

Keep a spare fuel filter with you for the first few tanks. Bio will clean every little bit of junk out of your fuel system
