DP Econo tune vs. towing tunes

Alright, I'm still new at this and am trying to get the best fuel economy. I looked at dp-tuner.com at their chip and the different tunes you can get burned on it and noticed that the "econo" tune is 80 hp for daily driving and good mileage, but then there are 20hp, 40hp, etc. tunes that specify that they are for towing. My question is will the 80 hp econo tune get better mileage than the 20 hp towing tune or any of the other tunes for that matter. My best guess is that the econo tune gets better mileage at low and mid throttle but has more power at WOT while the towing tunes have more low and midrange power for hauling...I'm probably only going to get 2-3 tunes if I get a DP or TW so i want to make sure i get the ones I really need. Also, I wont be doing any other mods except maybe a DIY intake but I'd have to do some research and get some coaching to know what the best setup is. Again, looking for best fuel economy (unfortunately) not the most power. Thanks

When you said you wont be doing any other mods besides diy intake, i hope your planning on getting a set of gauges.

Because running a chip without gauges is a VERY VERY bad idea.

So definitely get a set a gauges when you get your chip. EGT, Boost, And Trans Temp(if you truck is an auto).

At the very minimum you at least need a EGT gauge.

the shift points in the 80E are set up for highway driving mostly. they dont let the rpms get real high between shifts like a tow tune would.

Also towing isnt recommended in the 80e

If you are looking to get 3 tunes i would suggest 40 tow 80E and 120race.
Most people get better mileage out of the higher HP tunes if they keep their foot out of it.

Also gauges are a must

Thanks guys,

Is there any reason to purchase the stock tune?

This is an XL model work truck so I'm not looking for the best gauges money can buy, which ones are inexpensive but not junk?

Also, this truck has 260,000 miles, should I be worried about Mods on a truck this old?

You won't have to purchase the stock tune, DP will put it on there no charge.
As long as your motor is healthy don't worry about the mods. If you think you have problems with injectors, HPOP, whatever I'd take care of those before adding the chip.
For gauges Autometer, Isspro, and Dipricol are the popular choices... none are too cheap. Stay away from the cheapy Glowshifts on Ebay... I've heard a lot of bad things about them.

It's always a good idea to return it to stock if you are bringing it to the dealership or something to get it worked on.
