2002 transmission help

This morning I was driving I left the red light with gradual acceleration and went through first second and third no problem. When the truck went from third to fourth there was a loud bang and a serious jump in the truck, felt like the truck shifted into fourth and the torque converter then locked up after the final shift to fourth causing the bang. Any opinions on this I would appreciate it thanks in advance.

I have recently discovered something this afternoon. If I push the overdrive switch and it says OFF and then pull the shifter towards me as if I'm about to shift to P R or D the light goes off meaning overdrive is in the ON position but then once I let the shifter go the light will return on its own to the OFF position. Is this normal? Also after resetting the batteries by pulling the cables off I noticed when I pushed the button for the first time after doing the batteries that the light flickered from OFF to ON back to OFF then it shut itself off and was back in the ON position. What is going on? Thanks

There should be no bang. As for the od switch, the wires are most likely chaffed where they come out of the lever in the column. Take the shroud off around the column and find the wires coming out of the lever. Im sure you will see them a little bare. Its a common issue and u just need to get some tape around them. Already did mine as preventive maintenance.

Okay. I don't know about the bang I was hoping it was related to the OD switch.
