How do these motors feel when they have a miss. I'm a tech, but with gas, has very little diesel experience. Just curious, is a miss very noticable, as these motors idle rougher than what I usually work on.

Miss

For the most part you'll feel it at an idle but you'll notice it more under load ofcourse. Its hard to explain. Like you said, diesels shake more then gas cars. Sometimes i'll have another guy come over and i'll ask "does this feel like a miss"? Hard to tell sometimes.

I think this is the best way to change out that oil as well and get a FULL oil change without having to add 4gallons and then run it and drain it and add another 4gallons. Seems cheaper to do it this way and actually run 18qtz of good, clean oil rather than mixing it. IMO
when you replace 15 Qts of new oil you are adding it to 3 Qts of old oil that is in the HPOP

Let's not make this a religious debate... If you have the time, energy and inclination, by all means go for it and post up your results. I'm sure that we will all benefit from it.

By the way, how many of you drained your torque converter the last time your tranny fluid was changed? It's the same principal...

So if you dont have a torq. drain plug then you should have a shop do a complete flush with a trans flush machine and then do the filter.

The key word you used, Mike, is should. The link I posted is to a MotorCraft service procedure, which is how I actually perform my maintenance. No disrespect to you (as an ASE master tech), but I don't believe your way is materially better than the way the FoMoCo engineers designed it.

PS. Every so often we get together at the Scottsdale Pavilions on Saturday nights. Maybe we can meet up some time!

I have done alot of automatic trans stuff and have always did a complete flush and ever since I have been driving I have never had an auto trans fail.
I did see that it was a Ford service procedure. No disrespect taken and as a tech. I dont think that I have earned any respect on this forum board yet.

Well Guys! Im at the end of thise thread now. I wondered how fqar it would go or if even I would come to an end.

I believe that when you can. You should once in a while do a top engine oil change! have I ever? NO! But the next time i change the oil. Given time and place Yes I will. it never hurts to put all freash oil into a system. I hope Im not stepping on anyones toes, Im not a master Mach. nor do I wanna be one. But Theres no telling how long your rngine runs before the syatem is at a common level of cotaminated oil. Just saying Ill drink mud when I have to but I like fresh water when I can get it.
