TC indicator light

Ok electrical wiring is not my strong suit, but i Should be able to figure this out...

I put in a TC lockup switch yesterday(no problem). I want to also put in an indicator light for the TC. It's not working the way I hooked it up though. I tapped the VT/YL wire (same wire for the switch) which I assumed was the signal to the PCM. Ran 1 wire from the light to this, ran the other wire from the light to a switched power source.

Assuming that when the signal was sent to the PCM(or my switch was thrown) that wire would be grounded, it would also ground my light, and illuminate it. right? wrong. Just the opposite. With the truck on, the light is on, and when the TC locks up, the light goes out.
What am I missing?? I have another light I wired to my dash for something else with no problems, What do I need to do to get this one to work?
It's got be simple, but like I said this is not my strong suit...

Thanks

Chris

The tc lock requires a ground. Go through the switch and to ground, this will lock the tc. For an indicator light, you need a double pole single throw switch, it will have terminals side by side that are energised and denergised at the same time. be sure that the right and left side are independant of each other.
Run the tc through one side then to ground, and run power to the other side, then to the light and then to ground. If this is clear as mud maybe I can clear it up.....Jay

Yeah, still a little unclear. I want the light independent of the switch. I want a light in the dash to illuminate every time the TC locks. Wether it is done by the PCM or done by me manually. Isn't there a way to just tap into the wire that gives signal to the PCM for the light? And whenever the wire is grounded(by me or PCM) the light will illuminate?

I look at guzzles page all the time, and actually have that page bookmarked, I thought he only had a lighted switch, which is not what I want. But I looked at it again and sure enough he has the independent LED on there also. I forgot, thanks for the reminder.

It looks like I need to go to the trans wire, not the pcm wire for the light. I'll try it out today or tommorrow.

Hey I used this write up and did exactly what you are trying to accomplish. Mine works perfectly and illuminates a green LED when the PCM locks the TC. When I manually lock the TC, a red LED is illuminated..

Hope this helps.. And oh, I do not get a flashing OD light either
