Fuel Pump - What our stock one looks like.

This pump is located under the driver side door inside the frame rail.

May have something to do with my truck

If you're reffering the the "condom" on the one side and the brass plug on the other - it's to keep dirt out of it since it's no longer in the truck.

I've seen many, many of them Marty.

The Visteon plant that I used to work out assembled them. The pump came in from a supplier, we added the cushion material to the bracker, and then tightened the bracket around the pump.
