What steering gear box to get?

It's about time I start looking into replacing the steering gear box. Who has a good deal on them......meaning a good quality box at a good price. The cheapest ones I could find online were rebuilds by companies I have never heard of. Are all the rebuilt boxes I see online rebuilt OEM boxes or are some of them aftermarket Chinese junk that got rebuilt?

I replaced my OEM box with lots of slop with a Red Head box and couldn't be happier. Great customer service all the way around.

I agree with Blue99stroker. Red Head is the way to go. Ive put a bunch of A1 Cardone Reman gear boxes on and they are hit and miss.

I have had issues with autozones re builder

so much so that I went to their facility and got My core back

Redheads have issues out of the box also( a few folks have posted up ) and that can be a pain to send it back

I am lucky I have a local shop Who is a master at Power steering but if I didn't I would go to ford for mine

with any new box you may need to adjust the gear mesh ( sad but true)

I got a Atsco reman box from AutoZone. It has been on the truck for 2 years next month without issue. Comes with a lifetime warranty... but I also agree, these can be a hit and miss item.

There is a guy on PSA that had multiple issues with Redhead I think.

I am going to try Borgenson when/if mine needs replacing.

thats the company I had issues with so I went down there had them pull my core and they rebuilt the box as I waited

that worked fine the rest were crap with slop and binding it was actually very dangerous

The only reason I felt compelled to visit their rebuild facility is We had done the plumbing in their new building a few years earlier

Also - There's about 3 or 4 people on Ford-trucks.com in the Excursion forum that are having issues with theirs.
They've all received the same email, telling to re-torque the nut on the pitman arm...
Will definitely have to keep an eye on this.

Got my AGR box in. Very happy with it. Truck drives almost as well as my car. Gonna add hydraulic assist this summer. Then it should steer as well/straight as my Passat.
