Trailer Plug Pinout

When I got my truck it had a 7 pin in the bed, a 6 pin round that was smashed and a 4 pin that was wrong on the bumper. I need a 7 pin on the bumper so I pulled out what was there, and tried to trace the wires to the factory ford connector. They made no sense at all, might explain why the running lights came on when you hit the brakes. So there goes the easy way.

I have a spare 7 pin connector and the factory ford connector (square, looks like 3 large and 4 small pins in it. Does anyone have a pinout or wire color sheet on which one goes where. The colors do not match the standards for trailer wiring.

You can buy a factory replacement plug from ford. It comes with the 7 pole connector and 4 pin flat in one unit. You unplug the one you have on the drivers side rear frame rail and plug the new one in. Here is another site that might help you out. GROUND=WHITE
LEFT TURN=YELLOW
AUXILIARY POWER LEAD=RED
ELECTRIC BRAKE=BLUE
TAIL=BROWN
RIGHT TURN=GREEN.
THIS IS FOR YOUR 6WAY PIN. I COULD NOT TELL IF YOU NEEDED 6 OR 7. I CAN HELP WITH THE 7 IF YOU NEED.

If I can get the pinout I can do it for free, also that connector is not the right one, this one is more square.

I can get the connector and plug for $60, but if someone has the pinout thats $60 I can use somewhere else, like fuel.

The only thing a 7-pin adds is a reverse light signal...

That is the standard trailer wiring plan, unfortunalty ford uses colors such as blackw/green and orange on theirs. Who knows why.

you may end up just using a test light to find the right wires.
