'02 check engine light after temp spike

I'm traveling with my friends who have an '02 F250 7.3. On a steep grade they noticed a temperature spike immediately followed by a check engine light. Truck ran fine with no loss of power, no smoke, no nothing. After we landed and the truck sat for several hours we started the truck up and the light was still on. No way to pull a code right now. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Thanks!

Factory or Aftermarket gauges? Engine Temp or Trans Temp?

Without a way to retrieve codes, and it running OK, all you can do is give everything a real good "look-over" and keep your eyes on those gauges...

Get it scanned as soon as you can!

Thanks for the reply NoRal. It's the factory "check engine" light. We'll have to see if we can find someone to pull the code for us.
