Early 99 PCM upgrade?

I have an e99 that I converted to 6 speed. Old PCM was XLE4, the new one is a DAC3.... Apparently I got lucky and that's supposed to be the best manual PCM.

Since the swap I've been noticing a puff of white/light grey smoke on start up...

Tomorrow I'll do the general glowplug testing, I'm in Canada so our mornings are dropping as low as 10C so yeah that's about where they start to work. Last year I replaced everything, OEM glowplugs and the Stancor relay. The truck starts just as easy as it always did.

I'm curious if this is something to do with the PCM thinking it has AD injectors when really it has AB or what.
