I hated the dodge I used to drive at work. It was a 05 mega cab auto and it was a dog. especially pulling a 24ft enclosed with 6 harleys in it. But my buddy has an 06 3500 dually six speed and it drives like a caddy imo. My stroke rides like a log truck. The only thing I wish my truck had or was is a 4 door. I would trade mine in a heart beat for a crew cab

What is your goal with the truck? Do you just want a Dodge/CTD or are is there another goal for the truck?
You don't have to go with a standard trans. The 48re is a pretty decent trans, but only good for about +65 hp before you really need to upgrade it. If you want to go to the drag strip and win, it will be tough with a standard. Also, a really good single disk clutch (south bend) can be as much as $1000 bucks, and dual disk clutches are about twice that and require upgraded hydraulics. That plus install and you're looking at avg 2500 bucks maybe more. Most DD clutches aren't the most street friendly either. I think the Goerend stuff in my trans was about 4500 bucks, that's about everything minus a billet intermediate shaft.

That's the most overrated comment in the CR CTD world. IMO it's not necessary to get a HO truck just because they had more power from the factory. When you get to a certain point you'll be spending the same money with SO vs HO. The 03-04 trucks also have one less injection event, and traditionally average a little better mileage. Heck my 03 5 speed was over 20 all but 2 or 3 times, and usually around 22-23 with 24+ on occasion. It ran really well.

With what? You don't have anything listed in your sig.....if you're going to make a claim, back it up with some fact.

agreed. i have the 3750 dd sbc clutch in my truck and its not bad on the street. it seems like the harder i am on it the more grabby it gets. im guessin the hotter it gets and the better the materials bind and stick together. but eitherway i love my truck.

Ya know, I happened to be looking at a '07 2500 Cummins Dodge crew cab on Sunday, not to buy, but I was at the lot looking at another Ford truck.

The four 1.5" (or so) square bars Dodge has holding the front differential in place just don't look like enough, in fact they look like the ones they used to use on the 1500's a few years back, but they must be beefier.

They must have them strong enough, but man they just don't look right to me for a heavy duty truck.

Does the Dodge 3500 use these same size bars?

^That's because the Ford was in front of you!! LOL Sorry I could't resist. Anyone who switched to a Dodge, but still considers themself an AZ Powerstroker is OK in my book!

Well you really got two flavors of Cummins in those year range:

03
High output 305/555 nv5600 six speed only
Standard output 250/460 47re or nv4500
California output 235/460 47re or nv4500

2003.5
48re replaces the 47re and becomes an option behind all motors

2004.5
The start of the 325/600 motors
Bigger compressor
third injection event
some air flow improvements in the head, etc etc

2005
325/610
first year of the intank lift pumps!

Things to watch for, the ball joints on these trucks seem to have a short life, so I would keep an eye on them. Also the fuel filter mounted lift pumps on the 03-04.5 are about as failure prone as a diet during Christmas so I would keep an eye on them too. One nice thing about the Bosch CP3 is that if fuel pressure drops too low it shuts down keeping the injection pump from grenading, not so much fun on an off ramp in CT though. Luckily there are a boat load of economical options when it comes to upgrading. Other then that they are fairly good trucks, the steering is much light and tighter then Fords and they feel like a much small truck then they are. While my father's f350 is a great truck I love my goat.
