Autoenginuity obd cable question

Hey all,
So I bought a new to me truck last night, it's a 2002 f250 CCSB. With the deal he gave or is giving me the AE scanner with the ford specifics. My question is, he can't find the scanner software or cable, he has the software backed up and is going to either burn it and mail to me or try emailing it. Are those OBD to USB cables special to the system or will any generic USB to OBD cable work? It appears that the cable has a box incorpated into it that I believe is what unlocks the ford stuff? Any help is appreciated.

You'll need the security dongle that plugs into your laptop. You'll need the OBD plug that's plugs into the OBD port of your truck and the cable that connects that to the laptop is nothing more than the average USB cord to plug in a digital camera or ps3 controller. Then you'll need the software on your computer with the ford enhance package to get full capabilities. Hope that helps.

So if I were to just order the USB to OBD plug off the Internet it wouldn't work with the software?
