7.3 died wont start!

I am not sure if this has to do with running out of fuel or not I was low and light has just came on yesterday and truck completely shut off on the highway. Thinking that I needed fuel I put 2 gallons of diesel in and it fired right up. Got about 4 miles it lost all power and it came right back like the fuel pump shut off and came back or something. Then it died again... Cranked it for a while and after letting it sit for 30 or so it started again. Got 4 more mile and died just like last time. Got it started after waiting again tipped tank off took it home and let it run in driveway and thinking it was good after an hour drive to work this morning and it died on highway again

When was the last time you replaced your fuel filter?
Does it shut off on you after it gets warmed up? Could be cps

How much Fuel have you put it so far? (not sure what "Got it started after waiting again tipped tank off" means...) 2 gallons may not be enough!

Hearing the fuel pump running is NOT the same as confirming you have fuel delivery. Look above the pass ft tire, you'll see a 3/8" metal tube, against the motor that ends there, it's the drain for the bowl (yellow lever you slide to the side). Get a cup, open the lever, drain the fuel bowl, look at the fuel, close the lever. Then, turn the key to the ON position (should hear the pump) for 15 secs. Drain the fuel bowl again, whaddya got?

What year is your truck? (ALWAYS a good idea to include when you're asking for help)

Pre '01+1/2 (identified by a Trans Temp Gauge in the Instrument Cluster NOT being there) you should see the Tach Needle rise-up slightly as you crank it over on the Starter to confirm a functioning CPS.

Truck is a 2003. yea I drained the bowl completelt and it was refilling completely on its own. It seems to only cut off once I get on it. starting to think its a sensor or something. dropped it off at the local diesel shop hoping its easy to fix. I ma go try to work on it in the parking lot tho since they cant get to it till monday
