BAD MOTOR?

can someone please tell me what yr blocks and heads are interchangeable on the 7.3? I have a 2001 and the dealer is saying I have low compression in cylinder 8 and 5, I find it hard to believe its the rings since I only have 250000 miles on it. maybe valves? O rings on the injectors? If it is the rings, cant I just drop the pan and pull the head and replace the rings in those cylinders? this is my first diesel but I have built several motors. any help is greatly appreiated.

why was it at the dealer in the first place? Damn, $800 buks, and you were only 300 buks away from getting a rebuild kit.

I wouldn't trust a stealership for anything. I'd take it to a reputable diesel shop in the area if there's one available. They're generally not out to make a quick buck but want repeat customers. With that comes better service.

O-rings seem to be a common and quick fix. I'd pull the injectors out and take a look.

Reman motors can be had for half of their quoted price...
