Have a late 99 with a cummins/6speed swap. All stock suspension except just put on bilsteins. Rides pretty decent, better than than the 99 dodge it replaced for sure. Recently picked up an 05 parts truck. This of course gets me thinking on steering/suspension.
What Ive found:
-pitman arm throw is the same, 99-05
-tierod to balljoint center is shorter on the 05, roughly 1/2", which is where the tighter steering comes from
Ride wise Im happy with the leaves, but tighter steering would be nice since Ive got a crew dually! Swapping the whole front end is doable for sure, but curious if the ride really changes much if at all, being as the front end weighs 3k-4k on the axle anyway. Ive found a way to get tighter steering without swapping the axle, which is what has me thinking.... which way to go....
For those of you who have swapped leaves to coils, with comparable shocks, any real difference youve felt? Im thinking 500lbs in the back or bags in back would make a much bigger difference than anything in the front!
