lights

I have worked in a body shop for the past 7 years and have installed a lot of these. Most people complained be cause belive it or not they do lower your MPG You have to drill holes anyway to mount it and we ran the wires down through the holes. You have to drop the headliner and remove the plastic pillar sections (not hard) and run the wires like you would anything else, I would suggest putting cab lights on. the look better in my personal opinion, as for filling in the light holes on the visor... Hope you know a thing or 2 about mudwork. Good luck!!!

I'll have to agree here. I put a areodynamic visor on mine and it did decrease the fuel mileage but thats your choise. They do look good and if your in sunny country, The visor will shade you. If your in cold contry the visor will stop the frost on the upper part of the windshield. Superdutys have the wire in the pillar and the visor will have a harness with it.

I did this on my 97 460 truck. I wish I could remember the brand and model but I was attracted to it because the ad said how areo dynamic it was with the vents at the base to alowe the flow on the windshield to continue. Thats just not so. It was noisy and you could see it moving around in the wind. What I recall Ilost a little over 1 mpg. With a 460, man that sucks!!!

i'm more interested in the look of the visor...i don't think it should chatter as much as an older visor, it's one of the newer, sleak, lund ones....quik wiring question...how hard is the headliner to get off, and do the visor lights connect to a plug with the harness, or do they have to be patched in?

thanks for all the advise so far guys...

turbo rushmmm; fortunately my truck is a PSD, i dont see 460 gas engines in my near future!

i checked out the headliner issue.. its so easy; a couple screws and the posts just pop off. running the wire shouldn't be a problem...
I need ideas for what to run the wires into, though; headlights, or the cargo lamp circuit that's marked on the panel...
Also, i was thinking about how to seal the hole that the wire goes into, tell me if my plan souns like it would work...
you know how the attachment points are kinda square and probably 2-3 inches wide? i'm thinking i can cut some rubber gasket material into a beefy rectangle and have a gasket to stick under the tab that the screw and wires could enter the cab within...i.e. it wouldn't matter how big the wire hole was because there would be a gasket around the area...

what do you guys think?

wes

i had a lund visor on my 96, and i actually go going fast enough that the visor caught enough wind that it came up a little and the top of my cab pushed down. luckily when i slowed down it went back up. now on my superduty i just have cab lights. they are much brighter any way. i have put 3 sets of the cab lights on, they are not hard to install. you can get all the lights and the harness to plug them in for 80-85$ from ford. the harness just plugs in on the passenger side kick panel

I have the Lund visor on my 96, and I consistently get 20+ MPG. When it warms up I'll be adding clearance lights on the cab, the older teardrop style lights. Does anyone know where they should go, like measuring across the roof wise?
