Jake Brake

First off, is it the same as an exhaust brake? Is it needed in an automatic tranny? I had heard they are for stick shifts, but I don't know nothing about them.

A true Jake brake actuates the valves in the head to retard the engine. An exhaust brake goes in the exhaust system and builds back pressure to slow the truck.

With a torque converter lock control, you can use a brake on an auto. It will have to be an exhaust brake, though. Jake brakes are not made for PSD's.
