I was toldd I have a 03 engine in my truck when I bought it. I am thinkin otherwise. But, in any case, how do I tell what HPOP I have without taking it off the truck? Is there a way at all?

You have a 17 degree. They came on all of the 7.3s from 99.5 on I belive. Whoa just read your sig, I guess if your truck is a late 99 I would say you have a 17*. But I would assume that if you got an 03 motor that they would have put the 03 hpop in aswell.

as to whether or not it really has an 03 motor in it,

You know you could take a look at the sticker on the valve cover(passenger side i think it is. or block. i forget where its at, but i know its on the passenger side), to find out if you do have a 03 motor in there.

Oh my that is interesting.

Maybe the sticker will yield some help on the motor year.

You checked yet to see which rods you have?

no you can't tell the difference between a 15° and a 17° hpop
is the angle of the swash plate inside.
in fact the pulse big oil pump uses an oem case so you can't tell the difference in that other then the color outside.

Feel cover on the back side of the pump. I have read that the rear cover on the 17* pumps has a raised bump rather than being just a flat plate held in with a circlip, although some 17* pumps have a flat rear cover. However, no 15* pumps have the raised rear cover. In my experience, this has proven true. I have a 1997 F-250 and the cover on it is flat, and I just bought a pump off of a 2001 that has the bump on the rear cover. So, if the rear cover feels flat all the way across the diameter, you probably have an older 15* pump although it is possible it is a 17* pump. If it is not flat but has a raised surface, it is a 17* pump. Hope this helps. Has anyone else heard of this method of differentiating between pumps?

Here is a pic of my old 15 and new 17 side by side

If it is a motor swap before you bought it then there is no telling about anything, even the valve covers may have been swapped to the new motor. Could have been a complete drop in 03 or just an 03 block with all 99 parts swapped to it.

My truck manufacture date is 6/98 so that makes it an early 99. The valve covers say its a 99, even says she base HP is 250. I thought the BHP for mine was 235. I dunno. Any how, I will check the HPOP out tommrow. WHere is the inspection place for the rods? Can I inspect them with out fear of losing oil or other fluids?
