Good day under my PSD

It was the first day of good weather I had time to get some things done. I dropped the tranny pan and drained converter. Replaced the filer and cleaned up alot of grey paste from the bottom of my pan. The flluid looked pretty good so I was suprised at the grey goo at the bottom. I measured out 15.5 quarts specs said 17 total. I tried to blow out cooler but very little fluid came out. Refilled with new Penzoil ATF, and test drove. Maybe shifts a little firmer, but who knows.

Flushed out my coolant system with distilled water. Replaced all the radiator hoses and installed the new upper hose that goes aroung belt instead of thru it. Wow those weres some pricey hoses. The only place that had the re-routed upper in stock was Napa for $42.00. The lower was in stock alot cheaper at Checker($23.00) and was the same mfr. as Napa($39.00) I had to go to the dealer for the Third 1" hose from fill tank to radiator is was $37.00. No where had the heater hoses in stock, but they looked good so I left them. Replaced the thermostat while It was apart as well. Refilled with Rotella ELC coolant to a 60/40 mix. My inlaws live in Roosevelt which gets pretty darned cold. I goose hunt with them a lot in the winter, so I went for a higher mix.

While I was at it I pulled the grille and cut in a Zoodad mod. Used a 3-1/4" hole saw to drill 2 lower holes. Used a 1-1/2" hole saw to drill an upper opening. Then used an abrasive tile blade in my sawzall to remove the rest. I wanted a big opening so I relocated the air temp sensor down and to the side. I covered the opening with 5/16" mesh and painted it all matte black.
I noticed a sound difference right away in the cab. Also I can hear the turbo spool down for a few seconds after turning off the engine. I will have to give it a while to see if there is any MPG or power difference.

I also drained and refilled my power steering fluid it looked pretty bad. That was strange since last year I blew a powersteering hose and put all new fluid in. I was hoping that would help my poor steering but no luck.
Well that was my day, It was a mess but it felt good to get that stuff out of the way. My PSD has 96k miles and I need to keep it for at least 4 years, so I thought it was time.

Next week after payday I will drain the front and rear axles, replace oil and re-paint the covers. The covers look terrible from all the road salt. Then I will clean up my EBP sensor and tube. Then after I get my bonus from work next month, I am ordering an AGR Super Pump. I am tired of not having power steering. Then If I get lucky I will mod my pick-up inside the tank and add a filter. If I am real lucky and ambitious a helper pump.

I know it was long an boring but thanks for reading it anyway!

Cool deal, bud. I just got done swapping out all my fluids as well. Way to keep up with the maintenance. It's a thankless task, but your truck will last you a good, long time...
