bad sound when towing???

Whenever I hook up my dump trailer, usually only taking off or going uphill I hear a nasty sound, maybe grinding? The tranny was rebuilt 9 months ago so dont think it is that........... any ideas?

its not the surge brakes on the trailer is it?

I unplugged the power cord to connect the truck and trailer and it still makes the same sound..... i have a trailer brake but without the cord being conected it shouldnt work right? the sound was coming from under the truck.

carrier bearing starting to go maybe only hear it under load

if it was coming from the truck, check driveshafts and ujoints for play, depending on size of the trailer, it might just have surge brakes, it autolocks itself when it starts slowing down to asst. the truck. you cant really turn those off, but when you start again it pops.
