Gauge installation question

Well I finally hooked up my gauges from Raul today, only about 6 months after I bought them. I got the automete z series and I lost some of the instructions after waiting so long to install. Anywho all of my gauges work except the tranny gauge. I really just winged this one, but it instantly pegs to the hottest setting. The light works perfect, but could my ground and power be wrong? For the sender I just ran a piece of 16 GA wire to the tranny temp sensor to the gauge could that be my problem? Need some help guys thanks!
