Another tranny cooler question

I know what you guys are going to say, buy a 6.0 one and be done with it well i dont have that kind of funding now are rarely tow really heavy.. with that said I found one on riffraff's website and i know Clay is a good guy and wouldnt lead me wrong. I was wondering if anyone else runs this one Riffraff Diesel: Derale 20,500 GVW Transmission Oil Cooler.. If so how is it? What kind of temp change will I be looking at?

Thanks

If your on a budget a tru-cool max 47391 is a good upgrade similar in size to a V-10 trans cooler. Rated for up to 40k GVW. Costs about 150 or so but worth it.

A 20k tube and fin cooler doesn't seem worth it to me, stacked plate and fin coolers (like your factory cooler, a v-10 cooler, tru-cool and the 6.0 coolers) are much more efficient and in many cases the preferred option for most OEM cooling applications.

Just a heads up rock auto has new 6.0 coolers for under $300.

That cooler is way to small and inefficient your stock one is better. Get a 26 or 31 row 6.0 cooler.

I would run it inline with the stock one if that makes any difference

Depending on how the hose is routed you could cause too much restriction doing that. No sense saving 30-40 bucks on a cooler to have possibly higher temps or an improperly lubbed trans. I would just save up for a cooler that is at least an upgrade.

The tru cool is an add-on unit not a replacement correct?

As Layson said.
You can find a good used 6.0l cooler for less. Even spending 150 on a used 6.0l cooler.

I hardly tow but my tranny is always happier with the 6.0l cooler. Its direct bolt in minus the tubing and you will never have to worry about it again. Some things you do not want to skimp on and this is definitely one of those items

My truck has been fine with a 24kish GVWR Tru-Cool, ran about $90. I only tow my Jeep though, but temps MAYBE get up to 160. I think I've seen it at 180 once.

I'll need to get the 40k one to get it behind the bumper though for the intercooler upgrade.
