New to the forum and need advice

I just purchased my first diesel truck, a low mileage 1999 f250 SD 7.3l powerstroke in great shape. I have been doing A LOT of reading about the engine and additional gauges and have decided to add a turbo boost, EGT and transmission temp gauge. I have also read several places where it is recommended to add a fuel pressure gauge and a HPOP gauge. My question is "why do I need to monitor these"? If there is a problem with either of these systems, will it cause additional damage to the engine? I can and will be doing most minor maintenance myself. Anything I need to keep my eye on? Any recommendationswould be appreciated.

You don't need those gauges (Fuel & HiPres Oil).

You want the Trans Temp because it's crucial to know if it's overheating. You want the EGT because it's the one thing that can go wrong (mostly with tuning, not so much stock) Very quickly and just "lifting" will stop it. You want the Boost because, well,,, that one's just for fun

As for the Maintenance, go through this -> Failure Prevention Thread - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
