4x4 lockout questions
Hey guys, I'm new to this group, and just bought another stroker, but have a question about the hubs. The truck is an 02 f-250 4x4. I was wandering if ford made some of these with hubs that are completely auto. The hubs say free and auto on them but do not move. I took it back to my dealer and had him check it out you know so I'm not paying for them myself after my warrenty is up. He said that they are not supposed to move. It will go into both 4 high, and low just by the switch on the dash. so if you guys know anything about this please lend a hand. Maybe hes right but the hubs on my 01 f350 do move and it has the same switch on the dash setup. so I'm just cornfused.

The way I read the first post is that the hubs don't move between auto and lock. So how is he supposed to move it to lock if it don't move? Are they dummy hubs just for looks? I've also noticed that on some used ones I've looked at they don't move. I've only had experience with the real ones on a F550.

He said they don't turn...how is he supposed to turn them as a backup!?!?! GO TO YOUR DEALER AND MAKE SURE HE TAKES CARE OF THIS!!! These hubs are over two hundred dollars a piece to replace and they ARE SUPPOSED TO TURN. Fordmugg is right, they turn just as a backup so you never need to get out if they are working properly. You would be amazed how many times they don't work properly. When they are in auto the switch locks and unlocks them. When they are in lock they are always locked. If you want to try to fix them yourself Guzzle has a good writeup w part numbers etc. Be prepared bc just the maint parts are $50 and there are no wear parts available. |

alright Got my baby back from the dealer, and he told me that the hubs are not supposed to turn. They are completely vacume controlled and that everything is working the way they should. I guess hes right because the 4 wheel drive works great, I just cant beleave that I am driving a truck with dummy hubs.
