F350 tailgate interchangability...

Hey guys I know this is a diesel forum but I figured someone might know about this. My dad has a 2003 F-350 superduty and is obsessed with the tailgate on the new superduty with the step in it (hes getting up there in age I suppose) and asked me to find out if the tailgates on the new 2008 are interchangable with 2003 models. If anyone knows or knows of a decent knock off version of this for the 2003 model (he doesnt want something that sticks in the hitch he wants one that sits in the tailgate) please post a reply, thanks!

Someone did a write up on doing a regular '08 tailgate, but im not sure if its the same as the step tailgate. I'd like to know because if i ever mess my gate up i wanna replace it with a step tailgate.

Yes they are! you need to change the linkage on the driver side to fit OR just take the torsion bar out (so I've heard). Many guys have done it, I've seen them online, and in person!

I did the 08 Tailgate all you have to get is the 08 hinge for the drivers side and it will go right on about a 10 minute install

Cabelas and Northern Tools and Equipment both offer a step that you can add to your tailgate. It is $50.00 or less. It is not as slick as the 08 tailgate version, but you can do it for sure to any year pickup. Just another idea for you. I have thought about doing it myself.

This one is more, but it looks slick too.

Cabela's -- Step GateŽ

Looks to me like it flips up over the handle, and then folds flat against the tailgate.

you can find them all over... with the step roughly 800+. Without, I've seen them go from 350 on up on ebay.
