Reverse Lights problem

We have a 2001 F250 4x4 and have no reverse lights... Here is the deal though; if you shift the truck into reverse, and then go back into park, there is a brief moment the reverse lights will flash on right before you are all the way shifted back into park.
It's like the sensor position on the linkage that tells the reverse lights to come on is not in the correct position. Or is there anything like that? I'm use to old CJ's, so I apologize for the incorrect wording if I'm wrong.
Does anyone know where the sensor is on the tranny or linkage that tells the reverse lights to turn on? Can this be adjusted?

Is there was way to adjust the linkage so the switch see's the shifter in reverse at a different position?
