I use red lense on my lights i use for moving bees at night. Bees don't see red and the red light allows me to see what i am doing and dosen't interferr with my night vision. Haven't you noticed how when someone comes up behind you with those white or bright blue lights it blinds you for a second?
Actually a higher color temp on the Kelvin scale means MORE color, and LESS light, a pure white light will be from 4500K to about 5500K. Typical halogens are about 3300K to around 3700K the latter being a yellowish light.

I would agree here that if you are going halogen, the Silverstars are a good choice, and for the money, hard to beat.

yep, and they kill your side vision totally. Sure you may be able to see directly in front of your vehilce for a short distance but thats it you are right
Ever go into a dark room after being in one that is lit? If you stay in the dark room for a few you can soon make out shapes and pick up a surprisingly amount of detail. The human eye can see well enough to avoid danger in the dark as long as there is even a tiny bit of light. Nocturnal animals with that organ in their eyes that acts like a photmultiplier tube and makes their eyes glow in the dark on the other hand are totally blinded if hit with a strong light. For those of you that can remember sunday drives in the fifties at night you will remember how one could see the country side and the on comming cars lights, if there were any, you hardly took notice of because they were so dim. I don't recall anyone wrecking back then cause their lights were not ten zillion candle power? Sure was easier to drive with out those zillion candlepower white, blue, lights blinding you ever few cars.

I have blue lights on my car. They aren't brighter bulbs though, just blue tint so they aren't white. And I can see loads better with them, especially in snow, and moreso under streetlights. I may be crazy but it seems like I can still see better (in the rain too) because the headlights are a different "color" than the yellow/orange street lights. But that's my car, the beater-Buick so it's alot lower and less blinding to other cars lol
