Start-up engine noise normal?

Hey guys, me again.
It hasn't been too cold here, maybe 40-50 degrees in the mornings. But I usually still let the truck idle for 10-15mins before driving. The Tranny usually has some temp in it (~1/4th of the way up on the gauge) but the engine is just barely off of the bottom of the gauge. I am real easy on it until it gets up to full temp but notice something that sounds like pinging or piston rattle that a gasser has when I roll into the throttle around 1500-2000rpm. This seems to go away once up to temp.
I am sure it is hard to diagnose this through a thread without a video clip, I can put one up if necessary but bottom line is, how long does my truck need before driving it normally and are your trucks noticeably noisier during warm-up?
I am running Superchips "tow performance" fwiw.
If my car made any of the sounds this diesel does while on the throttle, I would probably be driving over my crank soon afterwards

Thanks,
-Jarrod

Jarrod,i would say your noise is probably the normal "cackle" sound a cold diesel makes.Mine seems to be louder when it's cold too.Engine is alot quieter when up to operating temp.Hope this makes you feel better.

Mine makes a rattle noise when cold and when warm...sounds like valves rattling in a gasser. Anyone else hearing this noise and if so have you had it looked at?

Ditto here......
Mine is real loud until it warms up. I also crank mine (remote) and let it run before leaving the house. I have a very steep grade for a mile or so and I just want it warmed up before I hit the hill.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Have a good evening.
