Steering Gear Replacement Help

Got new tires on her today. The ones from when I bought it were, just as I thought, out of round.

Got some nice Cooper tires and she is rolling down the road a lot better.

The guys down at the tire shop, said they did not align because the steering box is in bad shape, and did not want to waste my money. I like that. They quoted me a price to replace the steering box at about $600.

I told them I try to do my own work if I can. Especially considering the money I spent on the service manuals...

So, a couple of questions:

1. Anybody recommend a good place to buy the part?
2. Got a good tool set, but no pitman puller. Should I try to rent one?

Any other recommendations for replacing the part. Does have some play I would like to fix.

1997 F250.

I bought a readhead box but not convinced it was worth the price... most love them.

I rented a puller from autozone but no matter what I did (HUGE cheater bar, TONS of heat, lots of pb blaster etc) I could not get the pitman arm off. I ended up buying a new one from the dealership for about $50. I should have just bought it and not even bothered trying to pull the old one.

Also remember that you should replace the orings on the power steering hoses. I could not find anything that I felt comfortable using so I bought new hoses and put them on at the same time.

Just a basic 01 F350 CCLB SRW -Good from a far but far from good
