Most times superchips will do it, but charge you an arm and a leg... If you try tell them your PCM fried and it will not work on the new one... make up a sob story...

MIne just turns on automatically when you plug it in. And when I plugged it into his truck, it said something like "unable to communicate with vehicle" or something to that effect.

Next time I see him i'll try again and update this thread with exactly what happens, just for curiosity and future searchers.

Got my (vin locked) SuperChips today and it goes into the OBDII diagnostics just fine

I also see this reader:

OBDScan

And for 139.00 looks pretty good but if you add the Ford "enhancements" for another 69.00 (pretty cheap compared with AE) it will do ABS, Airbags and even buzz injectors!

OBDScan

Any one had any experience with the Apex?
