Stalls

I have a 2002 F-250/7.3 powerstroke. last week it kept shuting itself off when i am driving. sometimes it would start up right away and not, i wiggled the key and steering column and it seem to be the same. I hit the key switch and it would start so i replaced the key switch and that seem to fix the problem till today. Same problem started all over shuts down when driving sometimes it will start up. Any suggestions,

The CPS is likely your problem. It's the most common reason for our engines to shut off for no reason, then restart like nothing happened

Camshaft Position Sensor. Very common problem on these engines.

It was replaced about 3/4 years ago on a recall. If it went bad i would think that it would"nt start at all.

Ask a question, then disagree with the answer...

Just google it and you'll find hundreds of threads just like this, along with a ton of info about how bad the CPS's are.

Sometimes they are intermittent. I had one that would kill the truck about 3 seconds after start-up every other day. I also had one that would not let the truck run at all.

The are cheap enough to just buy and try. If it doesn't fix the issue, throw it in the glove box as a spare and look elsewhere.

If you are the type to really crunch your fuel mileage, then replace it with the even newer (dark blue) CPS you will apparently see an improvement.

The recall CPS (grey) they put out was to stop the problems for Ford and IH. Unfortunately, it is worse than the black one it replaced.

My E99 has the grey and I get the miss at idle and failing #8 on the CCT like others have seen.

The gray CPS that Ford sells and puts in during the recall is more reliable, but it definitely has it's flaws. Ford doesn't really care though because they have made a ton of money selling people a #8 injector...
