Am I hurting my truck with a short commute?

I have a very short commute (6.5 miles) and if I didn't warm up the truck before leaving my house it would never reach operating temp by the time I get to work.

I guess my question is am I hurting my truck by driving it such a short distance? Should I be warming it up (which I do for ~10 mins) before driving? And if so, for how long?

Do you just use the truck for daily commuting? Or do you drive it on the weekends too? If so you should allow to get the truck up to operating temperatures before you drive... But once in awhile take it on a long drive to get everything all warmed up and running thoroughly. But you should be alright.

The problem with short trips is unburned deisel thinning the oil. Just extra wear on the motor. Yes, longer trips and warm ups would be beneficial.

Lol ... I've been asking myself the same question. I have a 2 1/2 mile trip from my driveway to my parking spot at work. I do let it warm up for 10 min everyday plus have a Timmer on the glow plugs. I was told I was nuts for getting such a monster for such a short drive. Lol
I don't care though, the bigger the better

I always wondered the same thing with my 02? 10 Miles each way to work and home. Ever since I have been driving it short distances a butt load of problems have began like all my excess smoke in the mornings when its cold, but never had that problem before!

I have a fairly short commute so I change my oil a bit more often. Around 6k kilometres so that's around 4500miles? Maybe overkill but hey, rotella goes on sale every few months so it works out okay.

I also tend to take scenic routes
