Exclamation Sold duramax bought 7.3 please advise

Hello members I am new to this forum and the 7.3 motors. I am pretty familiar with diesel yet no expert. I bought a 2000 reg cab long bed 250 7.3 with 166000 miles 4x4 auto. I brought this truck to my local diesel shop only to find jb weld over a rust hole in pan. He's replacing pan both main seals and oil cooler o rings should I have him replace the torque converter while in there and if so is their a recommendation on one that's not $1000. The truck is getting 4 inch turbo back exhaust ,air intake, gauges and a 100hp tune. And yes I did use the search function (and canceled duramax forum membership lol) this truck is my daily driving and will see farm and towing use 400 hp max with new injectors. Thank you in advance an god bless.

Thanks I hope so Im already $3500 in with all that work and new tires I would buy a tc if it is a good idea since the motor is gonna be out anyway 15.7 clock hrs so Im taking advantage of putting in as many useful new parts within reason while it's out of truck my mechanic is doing a lot just for parts price since he's there already

you have the 4R100 so you should be ok transmission wise.. I'd take a look around the truck to see if anything else was cheaply patched up

well you made a great choice!

its not so much the TC that goes but the whole trans. att 166xxx miles i really wouldnt be to worried about the trans that much

but if your into replacing the TC so much here ya go

Performance Torque Converters | Car & Truck Torque Converters

4R100 Stage 4 Torque Converter

i have no comments on the company just a good price and one i would use if i had a auto

With unknown history of the truck, I would not spend the money on a torque converter, it will probably be trashed if/when the tranny goes. I'd just drain and refil the fluid from the pan and torque converter, and go.

No not bragging on money spent I just bought this truck I expected to spend a grand on tires and probably same on front end (it seems no one ever pays attention to ball joint shocks and tie rods) but the the front end was in great shape. Thanks for input I was told these trannys are great so I'll just hold off until I need to replace I was just curious as to particular items on theseodel trucks that should be upgraded. I paid 7800 for it it's in pretty good shape and has 4 inch lift so I don't think I'm in too much ($11500) with all repairs and upgrades. ?? Maybe I am. Thanks for advice

I wouldn't spend it on a TC. A valve body and big trans cooler would help more.
And idk what "100hp" tune you're getting, but doesn't sound very good.
