ATS ported compressor housing. Supposed to cure all of our surge/stall problems. A little pricey but not in comparison to a new turbo. ATS Ported Shroud Compressor Housing |

If you come off the throttle slower you can cure the surge when you let off quick. If it does it during shifts you need a new housing IF you want to rid it. The housing is the out shell looking thing that the compressor wheel sits in. It compresses the air coming in. If you have the money to drop a new turbo will cure it also. Don't back out of the surge, that is what causes it. During shifts the RPMs drop causing fuel to burnt not as quickly resulting in less consumption rate of air, with the turbo spolled and a compression in the lines and intercooler and nowhere for it to be burnt (because its being burnt slower) it spurts out the turbo back out the intake. Its similar to backing off the throttle very quickly from WOT or close too, just its not directly controllable. Wasn't aware it caused damage. Not sure but the fact that the turbo is being fed less it may lose compression strength which also contributes. Last edited by AvroAero : 01-24-2008 at 03:42 PM. |

ATS housing
Just put the ats housing on and the w.w. All the surge is gone. And man does the whistle sound so sweet. . You can get them at xtremediesel.com The wheel on there is called the x-wheel, same as the banks wicked wheel. And a lot cheaper. Not to bad to install. Did mine in about an hour. Hope it helps! |

My understanding is BOV's are used on gassers because they have a throttle butterfly whereas diesel dont. If your in high boost and close the throttle the air hits a wall and has nowhere to go except back into the turbo, destroying the impeller, sending chuncks into the engine when you open the throttle again. When you let off the pedal in a diesel the incoming air can still be forced into the cylinders, there's just less fuel to burn slowing the turbo.

Thanks guys, i think im just gonna order the ATS and call it good. Ive heard it performs a touch better with the stock wheel paired with the ats so im just gonna keep the stock wheel in there.
