hi
i lost my L '99 7.3 last night to a spun bearing. It happened suddenly and without warning on a slow city street. after doing some research on both internet and local builders for a long block, i am surprised to find the large number of unhappy patrons that bought local. what is the consensus for blackwater? their prices and warranty look attractive. thanks in advance. |

Where in the country do you live? I have a guy that I take all of my machine work to. He is very fairly priced, and honest. I have heard good things about Blackwater, but there are a few things that are suspect on their site. They say they use Johnson/ Hylift lifters. I find this hard to believe because that company was sold and then when out of business after a manager stole a bunch of equipment and customers. I have tried finding these lifters and have had no luck. Also they charge extra for Stellite valves which is weird because the 7.3 came from the factory with Stellite valves. The shop I take things to is in Baldwin, WI and that is a good hour and ten minute drive from my house. It is worth it though becuase he is the only one I would trust with my engine.

Re: advice on rebuilders
I have been somewhat searching my self and David Lott builds short blocks too without a core charge. Warranty isn't quite as good as blackwater but I think I would trust DI more so.
