Changing it all out at once is easier said than done. The amount of work is large but doable and the cost is not cheap. I spent $1200 on parts alone and it took a week of working on it after work. Been there, done that, wrote the book, sold the story, got the shirt! Here is a kit with everything for $788. This is a good place to get parts from. Bob is very knowledgeable about the powerstroke. Strokin early 99 I don't want to appear like I am arguing with you but to dothe ball joints you can take the hub off at the same time. It should take about 4hrs the first time and 2hrs after that. Which if you were doing after work could easily take a week and seem like it is harder. I can have the hub replaced in about a 1/2hr. Last edited by silverF250 : 01-19-2008 at 01:19 PM. |

I would say the front bearing in an hour is safe to post on a forum and not look like I was a show off.....LOL.....J/k.. You are saying that from a truck pulled up to a truck drove away 6 hours to change ball joints? Dude go into business. I know mechanics that are damn good that take longer than that. The average joe does not have the tool to put in the knuckle seal and it is either a $50 trip to a shop to have them installed or an hour or so to get the stuff to make your own tool, like I did. I broke a ball joint tool and had to have Napa get another one to replace it. And ford sold me the wrong dust seal and the hub O ring was three days out. |

Yeah I was fortunate enough to have to replace the hub on the side of the road (actually gas station) it took an hour there with limited tools. The next week we did ball joints on my brothers truck and I can easily do the hub in a 1/2hr useing the air tools. After you get the wheel off everything comes off with 13/16's socket. The ball joints the first time are a pain but Marc did an excellent write up and makes it extremely easy. I used the bad hub bearing as the knuckle seal tool. After you have done it once you should be able to do the whole truck in a 6 hr or less window. I would open a shop but I'm not good at diagnosing anything just replaceing stuff, with other people's info.
