2002 7.3 6 speed trans noise

I just bought a 2002 f-450 with a roll along bed and a 6 speed trans.

I notice when I start going in 1st gear theres a slight grind sound. almost like the throw out bearing.

I also hear it in reverse.

Does anyone else hear that same sound?

Is it normal?

Thanks

actually more like a whinning sound after the clutch engages and the truck moves.
It goes away with more speed.

most of these transmissions make a grinding noise under load at low speed. supposedly it's due to back lash in the gears which happens with time and normal wear. it's nothing to worry about.

Mine does it. I always thought of it as gear rollover at low speed.

That noise in mine was greatly reduced when I put a new clutch in. It didn't go away, but it was a lot quieter.
