poor mileage

I am a mechanic and own my own shop, my trucks mileage went for good to 10 mpg if I was lucky. I did every thing I could think of and even talked to what I thought was the best brains around to learn more. It seems no one knew what caused poor mileage, Alex at Banks even told people to call me at my shop to try and learn as much as I had on the problem. If I wern't a hard headed Irshman I might never found what the problem was. I am getting to old to play with it, but in my younger day I might have tried for 25 or even 30 I do believe it is very posable to reach that number with the proper modifation.

Any idea what a 1994 f250 7.3 powerstroke (4door-4wd) miles per gallon would be? I really want a big bad truck but I'm scared of my gas bill! - Luke at mountainjock@hotmail.com

Thumbs up one little issue

I think 2x4 or 4x4 platform will change your expectations.

I have a 2002 F350 SuperCab PSD with a 7.3L, Heavy mods to much to list, ie. upgraded Tranny W/TC, 70Hp Inj, 4'TurboBack,Chip,K&N,
ETC.etc.:burnout

I get 40MPG at 2000RPM at 70MPH on Cruise Control.

The only mod that would effect the OEM computer would be 20x10"s with Cooper ZEON XST Street Tires 305/50/20"s on a 2x4 drivetrain.
Just thought I would loose theese #'s with the high flow inj, But The truck still does great on cc. BUT Around Town My RIGHT Foot is dropping my fuel needle faster, but that's directly assoc w/ the SMILE on my FACE.

Good Luck, I Think an Intake w/ a 4" Turbo back then maybe a chip and some gauges should suit your needs if done in that order. C-Ya

Sorry been away from the forum for awhile. I have kept a close eye on my milage and from what i can tell the edge evolution mess's with the on board mpg meter. i am running between 15 mpg and 19mpg. with the switch to ultra low sulfur fuel here in Ca. it has been closer to 15 mpg more then 19mpg. I do have a Leer tono(sp) cover.

hey, I have a 01 excursion 7.3L diesel. Right now I get 17 combined (city+highway), but I plan on adding an extra overdrive behind the transfercase (it's a 4X4). I'm told it will drop the rpm by 450 at cruising speeds. I am hoping for at least 22 mpg after it is installed. l'll let you know how it turns out.
