Use Stanadyne all season fuel conditioner and you will never jell up agin. This conditioner drops the pour point of your fuel by 40 degrees. So if you jell at 16 degrees now with additive it will now goto -24 D1 or D2.

Hi John: I have the same truck and had real bad mpg also, I have done a ton of add-on's to try and improve my mileage (I am master tech with ASE) I couldn't find the problem. I just got done with a class at our local collage where the instructor had been the diesel tech at a local Ford dealership. He gave me enough information to test my own truck. I found that the 5 volt referance to the map sensor was not steady, it had a bad splice at connection at splice # 120 in the engine wireing harness. What that did was make the PCM drop into a preprogramed driving condition which would not control the timming or the fuel control. I ran a second wire from the PCM to the map sensor and cleared all the codes. I didn't check the mileage yet, but with a round trip to the collage and back I could see a great differance in the amount of drop in the fuel gague. My guess is I doubled the mileage. I was getting about 10 1/2 to 11 mpg loaded or not - up hill or down, didn't make any differance at all. I will ck with ASC and see if they have a shop well trained in diesels in your area and let you know. Good luck Mike OB

I've gotten as high as 26 (my math sucks so that may be a little off, but not by much) and as low as 11, pulling a huge machine on a trailer. The K&N intake and new downpipe really helped let the motor breath, helps a lot with fuel mileage.

Fuel Mileage

I Get An Average Of 15 Mpg The Best Was 17 Mpg Keeping 2,000 Rpm Or Less (70 Mph) I Have A 2002 F250 7.3 4x4 Auto Crew Cab Short Bed With K&n Air Filter, Ball Bearing Turbo, 4" Exhaust, And 60 Hp Chip (dioblo) 3.73 Gears With Factor Size A/t Tires. Pulling I Get 12 To 14 Mpg
Does Anyone Know Anything About The Gear Vendor? Would It Help To Get Better Fuel Mileage? Are Some Kind Of Maintence? Sounds Like You Guys Are Getting Better With About The Same Rig.

how it is in the west

At our pumps we can get #1 or #2, the differance is on road or off road out here. #2 is for on road only and #1 is not taxed as heavy for the farmers. I have had a few people say that their mileage went to hell whe they fueled up in California. After reading all the mileage you guyes are getting I do believe that our fuel is less BTU's then yours. If I keep the speed down and use cruise control I get a bit better - but not 20 or more, its more like 17 or 18 and that is empty. This is what I have done to help (1)-4 inch down pipe and 5 inch exhaust (2)- dual air clearners both K&N (3)- Banks 90 hp chip (4)- Banks turbo housing (5)- Banks big head waste gate control (6)- Banks trans command (7)- Banks torque converter (8)- Banks six-gun (9)- magnet on the fuel line. (10)-Delvac oil. Everything that I have done should have improved the mileage, and together it should be awsom. The best thing I did was to fix the 5 volt ref to my map sensor. If I add up all the hp that is claimed to show up with each improvement, I get more the 550 Horse-power. I can brake the tires loose just by pushing too hard, it will pickup speed on any hill with our fithwheel under tow. I have come to believe that the fuel you buy in California is crap and I will never get your kind of mileage. Keep trucking Mike OB

I don't know a whole lot about it, but a friend of mines old man had one on his dually. It was nice to have an extra overdrive but it was always the weak link in the drivetrain. I know the advertisements say they can handle an obscene amount of horsepower but that wasn't the case with this truck, it ate them.

What wire do you check the 5 volts to the map sensor on? I am just curious to check it.

99.5 Powerstroke mileage

I just bought a 99 F250 Super Duty extended cab. So far I have not topped 14.5 mpg, even when I deliberately try to stay off the gas and drive mostly highway. Could there be something wrong with my diesel? It seems to run fine.
