type of engine oil to use?

Can you use standard car synthetic or semi synthetic oil in the 7.3 such as Castrol Syntec. Or is there a specially formulated engine oil for diesels?

It has to be rated for diesels to handle the soot content. ratings are CI-4 for 07 and older CJ-4 for the 08's but you can run the CJ rated stuff in any diesel 08 or older. Look for Shell rotella mobil delvac or chevron delo 400 for dino oils. For synthetics look into Amsoil or Rotella synthetic

They sell Rotella pretty much at any auto parts store (advanced auto, auto zone, o'riley's, napa, car quest) even walmart carries it!

awesome thanks guys! I've always owned cars and used synthetic oils.

So I'm wondering is this stuff regular dinosaur oil and how often should it be changed if I don't tow very often. Does it have good detergents or builds up sludge like dino oil usually does? By the way I noticed most of you live on the other side of the country and run the 15w40. What do you suggest for a california truck? Thanks again guys!

I use CASEIH NO1 0w40 synthetic oil if you compare it to Shell Rotella you will see it is better oil and rates right up there with Shell Rumella at a far better price can be bought at any CAEsIH dealership.

For your worm weather you want 15w40.
