Transponder keys

got an 00 excursion and need to get transponder keys. Are these specific for models or years of vehicles, or can I get any uncut/unprogrammed transponder key and have it programmed?

You can get a replacement key that's un-programmed - you just need to unplug the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS), which is somewhere around the trans tunnel.
Otherwise you need to pay a dealership or some service shop to program it for you.

Now for the remote control (lock/unlock) Key Fobs - yes, you can have your truck 'learn' those.
