Turbo wistle
I am new to the diesel world. I just bout an 02 superduty. It has 4" turbo back exhaust, intake and the ecu has been tuned. A guy I know has an 03 6.0 and the turbo wistle sounds great. I know that the 03's had a different turbo or something. Is there any way to make the 7.3 sound like the 6.0 wistle?
Also, looking for a little more power out of it but do not want to hurt reliability. The previous owner said there is an 80hp tune in it. I have to call him to get the info on who did it though. Any suggestions on what can be done is welcome. Thank you. |

Open up the exhaust and remove the foil from the intercooler tubes. Add an aftermarket or DIY intake and you will have a lot better turbo sound. Get a new chip so you know what you have. Gauges are great to make sure you don't harm the engine. I recommend Tony Wildman chips.

removing the foil off the intercooler tubes will make the turbo louder? is the foil just to keep heat away from the tubes?

The foil has sound insulation under them.
The factory tubes on the early 99's didn't have them. DIY Intake, ATS housing, or aftermarket turbo are best ways to more sound... Additionally, the 03 6.0 turbo's are the loudest and most pronounced of all the 6.0 turbos too... |

Head bolts are the issue - not the gaskets. They stretch and allow the gaskets get pushed out. Wicked wheel or ATS housing will give you more whine. Straight pipe, open element intake, and take the foil off the I/C tubes. That's all the whine you're getting until you go aftermarket turbowise... |
