programming a key fob

Hey all,
New guy here. I have tried to program my keyfob numerous times and cannot get it to work. I do the switch 8 times after unlocking the doors. The doors lock then unlock, press the keyfob, doors lock and unlock, turn the key off (I think they lock unlock again) but then the keyfob will not work the locks. Everything goes by the book but in the end the fob doesn't work.
Any ideas??

brand new batteries in the fobs and no issues with the truck batteries.
