"Service Engine Soon" Light

After a smoky, cold start my 2000 7.3 Excursion has a dash light that is staying on that reads..."Service Engine Soon." Any ideas what this is?

You need to have your vehicle scanned for codes. With out codes I don't think anyone would be able to help you out. Most autopart stores can scan your truck for codes for free.

The code readers at most auto parts stores are not compatible with the 7.3 so it will show no codes when there are actually codes. Most programmers will read codes or a good diesel shop will do a scan (which is way different than a code read) for $50 or less.
