Chicago, IL ... I found one store that had them at a penny each (8) and another that had them at 6.37 each (8) but said they'd match the price if I brought them a receipt. I found a third store that said he couldn't match the price, but would call me when they come down to a penny...

So I went to the first store, bought the first eight with no problem - now had a receipt! Went to the second store ... at first they refused to sell them to me and match the other store's receipt. They at one point claimed they don't match other Autozones ... just competitors, and that the price must be a computer error. I pressed them and asked the main guy I was talking to if he could look up the the other store prices. He said he didn't know but would try. We started looking at the screen, and at the bottom there was an area designated for what he called "sell through." Apparently it was coded in a way that made him realize he COULD override the price without getting in trouble ... so he sold me the second set of eight for a penny each!

There is nothing more entertaining than buying $250+ dollars of merchandise for a dime and getting change back ... and I did it twice!!! If the third store comes through I might get a crack at a third set (actually 9)!

Now, here's an important addition to the formula ... apparently the stores may have ZD-10's instead of ZD-11's ... They appear to be IDENTICAL and the Autozone computer listed them as "equivalents" to each other so I don't know if there is any meaningful difference. Of course this means that you all might want to call your stores back and see if they have any ZD-10's in stock! all of my plugs were made in Germany except one ZD-11 that came from Ireland ... again, no visible difference in any of the parts.

OK ... here's the deal. As you know I have a 6.0L so I can't even use these little beauties. I spent about three hours of my time and between $20-30 in diesel (during rush hour in Chicagoland) going on this adventure. I'm certainly not looking to ream anybody but I WOULD like to make at least a little profit for my efforts. Each set has a retail value of $240 + tax (8.75% in my area) for a total of $261. I think the fair thing here is to let you all make me reasonable offers (plus actual shipping cost) for each set and let them go to the highest offer. Unless you absolutely have to have them NOW I'd suggest you all go back and see if you can score the ZD-10's for a penny each and then give me a shout in a day or two. Considering how many of you are hoping to score these at a good price I think that's fair without being greedy. If anybody disagrees I'm certainly open to your point of view.

Try the Kinston and Greenville stores. I posted up earlier in here on the tricks of how to get them, give it a read. If and when you do find the penny deal, ask them to look and see if any of their other stores have them in stock. They can pull up all their stores and inventory. Good luck.

I managed to pick up a few today as well, one store flat out refused to sell them at that price, I asked what the price was, as the girl told me, "I just can't sell them to you"

I saw this post late in the day, so while I was out running here and there, I called my brother, who works for Pepsi. He was winding down today, but I have compiled a list of Autozone stores that are along his route tomorrow, he is going to hit every one so hopefully I will have extras for you guysd that miss out.

On a side note, he did stop at one store to check them out, before selling them for .01, the guy wanted to check with the store manager, indeed the store manager said no sale, however, in the same breath, the emplyee told my brother that the store manger also instructed him to simply "throw them away" so he did, right out front with my brother right behind him. The guy says "I did what I was told to do, you do what you need to do...." needless to say, he picked them up. Hey .01 is pretty damn good deal, FREE is better...
