Tranny

Maybe someone can clear this up for me. someone told me that if I tune my Truck (50Hp) that there is something that I need to do to the tranny its the auto one I dont want to mess the truck up I was running a 80hp tune in my 99 7.3 but that was a stick and this one is a auto . I was planning on doing the zoodad mod and straight pipe today then put the tune on it but?????? now Im not for sure if I should Chip it

There is nothing that you "have" to do to your tranny, however... it is very wise to at least put a temp gauge on it since they tend to overheat quick with any after market tuning. Depending on how serious you want to take it and also what you are doing with your truck you may also want to consider having a lager oil cooler put in and possibly a shift kit if you haul a lot. However, if you are just after a little better fuel mileage or some pep when you go to pass people, you don't need to stress it too much.

You must have gauges before any performance mods!
Most good chips or programmers will firm up the tranny a little but lots of folks recommend changing the valve body and torque converter before going wild with power. Tranny temp will tell you lots about how happy or unhappy your tranny is but I wouldn’t trust the factory gauge if your truck has one. Heck the oil pressure gauge isn’t even real.
