7.3L fuel mileage and exhaust

Hey guys, I have an 03 7.3L auto 4X4. it's pretty much stock except my exhaust, 4-inch straight pipe turbo back. I usually get like 13-15 mpg just everyday driving. and I might get like 17-19 highway. I change my fuel and air filter regularly. O and I have 285/75/16 tires just a little over stock. My question is I was going to order a AFE stage II intake today, and was wondering if you think it will help or what I can expect from it as far a mpg and power. My other question is do you think a muffler would help. Thanks in advance.

No don't install a muffler, leave the exhaust open to let the motor breathe easy and get the turbo spooling quicker. Get a GPS or borrow one and make sure that your speedometer is correct so you are getting accurate mpg. I am not a big fan of aftermarket oilable air filters but I am sure some others will chime in soon. For more power and better economy check out DP tuners. DP-Tuner

I've used my gps, my speedo is dead on. What do you recommend for a air filter?

That would help most of the time, but when I'm really trying to be good and get accurate fuel mpg i have no excuse for poor mpg.

Get the AFE stage II, it will help a lot with power, and it will help lower your EGT's. You might see maybe a mile or two more per gallon. If you are worried about oiled filters, get the AFE dry filter. That is what I have and love it.
