i have a 97 4x4 f350 with the 7.3 , i lucked into it and got it for $400. it didin't run , or have a bed on it and the cab is all banged up, but i finally got it running and on the road, i dont know how modified it is, but i know the 7.3 in it is not anything like the one on the manual and there's lots of chrome and 2 turbos, it gets 20-22 on the highway and 19-20 in city driving, , and yes that's accurate , its dual exhaust to. |

I'm happy with the stage I. The shop I bought it from insisted on a free install so I let him. I asked about the stage II and he's run both in his own rig. He didn't notice all that much difference between the two and switched back to the stage I. I keep my EVO in tow and last time I clocked it, 460mi straight highway with a few stops here and there, turned out to be about 16mpg. Summer time its around 19-21. If you want to spend the extra dough, which i think is a few hundred difference, get what you wanna get. If I could do it again, I would make my own. I think there's a tech file, not sure though. Zoodad wouldn't be a bad mod to add, and it involves my favorite word. FREE!! There's great tech files on that also.

Fuel mileage and wind drag!
I have an '01 7.3 F250 CC SB with 130K and have some fuel system issues causing poor mileage, engine clattering and overall sluggish operation. However, my manual calculation and console fuel computer agreed this last fill up at an average 17 MPG for an 80/20 (Hwy/city) mix. No mods to date but several are planned. Interesting note - while driving 55 MPH with a direct headwind (approx. 15 MPH) on a flat stretch recently I saw a ridiculous 13.5 mpg 15 minutes later driving down the exact same stretch headed the other way but now with a 15 MPH tailwind I saw am amazing 24.5 MPG!! Previously on the same stretch with no wind at all I've seen 19 MPG religiously so it seems to work out mathematically - 19 MPG is half way between 13.5 and 24.5 MPG! Can you believe the affect wind drag has on my PSD - 5.5 MPG - and that's at 55 MPH - WTF?

while it was still stock, best hi-way was 20.7, under 65 MPH. While on 30 mi commute, country roads was 16 mpg. Then added AFEstage 2 prodry, milage went up to 17,2-17.5. Later added 4 in exhaust and DPtunes. only been short trips 3-10mi. hilly too 13-15mpg. Don't know about hi-way yet. AFE added 1.2-1.5. don't know what Exhaust and DP Tunes difference is yet. |

I just actually bought the AFE Stage II and a 5" straight pipe for my 99. To tell you the truth I think it did help but nothing your really going to feel I'm trying to still figure if it really helped in the mpg's. When I really felt a change was when I put the pipe on it ( was installed a week after the intake ). The one I would really go with would be the AFE they make a awesome product.

I tested mileage between stock and having the tymar filter and 4" exhaust on my 7.3. I do a 350 mile 65mph freeway drive about once a month and i noticed my mileage went from 18.5 up to 19.5 mpg. Around town it made no noticeable difference. The turbo does spool up quicker and it boosts at a higher psi under WOT making more power and you CAN feel the difference. A friend of mine claimed to do better with his afe and 5" but when we made the same trip in his truck i calculated it and it was identical to mine. Turns out mods make people a little biased and start exaggerating numbers. Honestly, pumping your tire pressure from 40psi to 65psi will do more than an airfilter. I have the numbers to prove it. Great for power tho

I just filled up today and got 19.249 MPG....I am very impressed. I put in Diesel Kleen and airing up my tires to the 80 psi required and unlocked my hubs to see if I can get at least 20 out of this tank.
O yea the last fill up was a combo highway 55-75, town, and hauling 5 ton of sand!! Luke |
